Which Midsize Sedan has the Best Rear Seat and Trunk?

To find out, we invited over 100 midsize sedan owners to a secret location to conduct a detailed, hands-on comparison of the top 13 selling midsize sedans, including the recently launched 2013 Ford Fusion and 2013 Honda Accord.  The midsize sedan owners rated 100 attributes for each vehicle.  Then, we statistically summarized their ratings into a handy summary that gives you a quick, clear look at how each model measures up in all the major categories – including rear seat comfort and trunk space.  So, which sedan did over 100 real owners find to have the best rear seat and trunk when they compared them all in a back-to-back, hands-on comparison?

2nd runner up: 2013 Ford Fusion:  The recently launched 2013 Fusion, ties the new Altima for the 3rd highest rated rear seat environment.  Overall rear seat roominess, comfort, and ease of entry and exit rate above average, with average rear seat storage and cup holders.  Trunk space with the seats up and with seats folded rates second highest.  A large trunk opening and low sill makes loading large items easy.

First runner up2013 Toyota Camry:  Redesigned for 2012, Camry had above average rear seat roominess and tied Passat for the most comfortable rear seat.  Rear seat storage and cup holders rated near the top of the class.  Camry’s trunk area rates 2nd highest among 13 sedans tested, with above average space with seats up and folded flat, and above average ease of loading.

And, the winner is…

2013 VW Passat:  Passat is the best people and stuff hauler among midsize sedans.  Passat has the best rear seat roominess and comfort, and rates above average for rear seat cup holders and storage.  Passat’s trunk easily swallows all those rear seat passengers’ stuff, with the top rated trunk space, either with seats up or folded flat.  Ease of loading and unloading is above average.
