Hyundai ElantraNow in its 5th generation, the 2012 Hyundai Elantra has come a long way since it was first introduced in the US in 1990.  The Elantra rated highest among Compact Sedan Owners over the all-new Honda Civic, Chevrolet Cruze, Ford Focus, and Volkswagen Jetta.  The Elantra placed best-in-class in 9 of 10 summary categories and in a whopping 69 of 87 total measures. Rated best-in-class for 7 of 8 detailed measures, the Elantra’s exterior appearance was rated the most appealing by a wide margin.  The vehicle comes across as being very expressive and new without being cartoonish. In addition to exterior appearance, the Elantra was also top-rated for steering wheel controls and comfort.   Lastly, the Hyundai Elantra was also rated Best in Segment for front and rear seat comfort.

The Elantra did not received a single “below average” rating and also had the highest fuel economy. It ranks as the second lowest priced compact sedan tested behind the Kia Forte and was rated highest for “value for the money” in its segment by a wide margin.  According to the over 100 compact sedan owners that we invited to our research facility for a detailed, hands-on evaluation and test drive of the Hyundai Elantra, this vehicle is in a class of its own.
